Stargazing Days EP!
The long-awaited Stargazing Days is a four-song EP and is the first solo music from Jimmy in over a decade.
Jimmy tracked and mixed everything himself in his basement, trying to get 4 songs done before his son was born in June, 2022. The universe had other plans and his wife started having complications three weeks before the due date. She was induced a week later and, after a long and complicated delivery, their son Noah was born. The EP was temporarily, understandably shelved. Last December, things finally got going again and sent it off to legend, Knol Tate, for mastering.
It's raw and far from perfect. Many things were recorded in one take. But Stargazing Days is a welcome back to music-making for Jimmy. For many years he has been playing drums or guitar and singing harmonies with and for other artists. Check the dates below to see him solo!

“Jimmy Barnett (not to be confused with Minneapolis troubadour Gabe Barnett) writes gentle indie-folk with personal, introspective lyrics, sparse percussion, warm vocal harmonies, and various lo-fi textures to enhance these acoustic based tracks.
The songs on Stargazing Days could stand on their own two feet if he were playing with just a guitar at an open mic, but the flourishes on the recording are a nice touch.
This recording is the creation of a guy who realizes youth is in the rearview mirror and is making peace with his current station in life. It's a bit wistful, but it's not a bummerfest. In fact, closing track "Cutest Thing" is outright optimistic, ending things on a high note.
I should mention Barnett is an adept singer, which ya know, is good when one is a singer/songwriter using minimalist arrangements.
Know what's kinda funny, though? He is a good drummer, too, but there is no drum kit on this record (he used to drum for Sleeper & The Sleepless). Mostly, it's just a shaker for percussion. But that is the sign of someone who knows just what the songs need and doesn't add a bunch of extra bells & whistles just because they can.
Anyway, good stuff as always from this guy; for real, hit up his BandCamp and hang out for a while. However, you'll have too wait a few weeks to hear this one - it comes out 3/21/23. Be on the lookout for a release show in the Twin Cities.” - 2/28/2023

“Jimmy Barnett’s “Stargazing Days” is an EP that will make you feel warm inside. “Stargazing Days” is like wrapping your ears in your most comfortable blanket, putting your phone on airplane mode, and enjoying the night sky. To be honest, Mustard does not listen to a ton of acoustic music. They heard you need to become truly unplugged to do so. But for Jimmy Barnett they have made an exception. Barnett’s storytelling and vocals throughout the EP can make a gloomy day feel like a perfect 72 degree weather day with no humidity. Much like the night sky you will be wishing that “Stargazing Days” had an extended stay.
Mustard looks forward to what else Jimmy Barnett has in store.” - 3/24/23
